Our fair trade Borneo Tribal Spike Mask is inspired by the indigeneous dayak culture of Kalimantan ( Indonesian Borneo) which despite the advances of the 21 century is still largely intact.
We undertook an expedition to Bornep to learn more about Dayak Tribal Masks and to find artisans that we could work with to source masks in Borneo.
Unfortunately there was not the infrastructure in place to allow us to produce and ship the masks at competitive prices, so we took our research to our existing master wood carvers in Bali with whom we have been working for many years and we produced a range of masks inspired by the designs we had seen in Borneo.
As with all our products we work directly with our master carvers, the wood is sustainably sourced and we ensure our carvers receive a good price for their work and have safe working conditions. Our masks are hand carved from a single piece of local sustainably grown albescia wood.
Our spike mask comes in the choice of three sizes; small - 30 cm by 10cm, medium 50 cm by 11 cm and large 100cm by 13 cm. As each is hand carved there will be slight differences between each masks which should be cherished as it makes them unique!
